Jennifer L. Claggett

Assistant Professor

CV (pdf)
Skype: Claggett

I joined the faculty at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia in 2014. I will be teaching in the Undergraduate Program and the M.S. Management of IT Program.

My primary stream of research strives to understand how experts know how to coordinate, specifically when new information systems are introduced. I study these research questions in hospital settings, as hospitals are an excellent example of a modern organization dependent on teams of experts. Based on this research, I was awarded a three year NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. I defended my dissertation in May 2014. My dissertation committee consists of Drs. Elena Karahanna (chair), Rick Watson, Dale Goodhue, and Amrit Tiwana.

My other research projects include studying how computer self-efficacy alters user performance and how top management initiates and sustains digital infrastructure innovations.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and have experience with undergraduate and MBA students. I am especially interested in opportunities to introduce new data management trends to students; including unstructured data considerations, sentiment analysis, the challenges of “big data” and data mining, data analytics, and the importance of thoughtful data visualization solutions.
